After serving his country during WWII, James Elmer Dewire returned to his hometown of Tamaqua, PA and got a job
working on the railroad as a carpenter. A few years later, he found a job working for a local contractor in
Bethlehem, PA. After several years of commuting, he decided to move his family to Bethlehem. He learned a lot
working on the job, building homes from the foundation to the finished project. Doing all the carpentry work
for home building, the training he received was very beneficial for starting his own company. In 1965 Jim started Jim Dewire General Contracting. With his wife, Alice, answering the phones, along with his son James Alan, he started doing many types of construction work. Additions and remodeling were his priority, but if asked he did roofing as well. He soon developed a reputation for doing good quality work and took pride in everything he did. He was committed to giving his customers the best service possible and making sure their projects were done right.
He changed the name to Jim Dewire and Sons in 1987. Both his sons worked with him and learned right along side him on the job. Today, with over 40 years of experience, Jim and Jeff continue the quality of work that was instilled in them and run their corporation as it began, a family run business.
